If you're interested in a source-based distro, I would HIGHLY recommend Venom Linux! It's very easy to install, and the developer has made it very easy to maintain the system. Based on LFS with inspiration from Crux...you'll find many packages in the repos, and chances are that you may not have to build your own packages from source unless you have certain needs. The package manager is great, and the community is second to none.
