Highlights of this release include the Linux 2.4.29 kernel
(with Linux 2.6.10 as an alternate choice in /testing),
X11R6.8.1 from X.Org, Mozilla 1.7.5, KDE 3.3.2, GNOME
2.6.1, and Xfce 4.2.0. System binaries are linked with the
GNU C Library, version 2.3.4. Updated versions of the
Slackware package management tools make it easy to add,
remove, upgrade, and make your own Slackware packages.
Support for the ALSA (Advanced Linux Sound
Architecture) was added, which will be the
default in the upcoming 2.6.x kernel series. GCC
3.2.3 was included (with GCC 3.3.1 as an
alternate choice) along with GNOME 2.4.0 and KDE
3.1.4. The stable 2.4.22 kernel is used, but the
distribution is ready for 2.6.x.
