This release includes a completely rewritten Web client that uses Apache Struts. i18n is fully supported, including 3 translations (English, German, Portugese). The ability to fully customize status and severity messages was added. Client and server form validation is now done. Transactional support for Web forms was added. Easier report customization and generation are now supported. Many other small enhancements were made.
Two new translations were added. Some performance improvements for large projects were made. Several bugs from 1.7.2 were fixed. This is the last planned development release before the production 2.0 version.
This release fixes several major bugs found in the 1.7.1 release. The two most important fixes solved the inability to edit some users' permissions and a bug where non-super users were not getting any permissions loaded at login.

including one which caused errors on login and another which prevented
help from displaying correctly. It also streamlines the way reports
are added to the new system.
Major new functionality includes full internationalization of the site with multiple locale support, conversion of the Web frontend to Jakarta Struts, transactional support for form submission, the ability to customize issue statuses and severities, and the addition of a new targeted release attribute for issues. Passwords are now stored as hashes in the database, and will be converted automatically. To make installation easier, the application can now be downloaded with or without with Apache Axis included for API support.
