This release includes a number of major fixes in libparted, parted, and partprobe. HFS+ resize support has been added to libparted. There is support for reading from disks with a non-512 byte logical sector size on DOS disk labels in Linux, AIX disk label fixes, support for building on Hurd and OpenSolaris systems, correction detection and preservation of the starting location of primary Windows Vista partitions, and other code cleanups. The source tree has also been overhauled to work with current GNU developer tools and the GNU portability library (gnulib).
This release includes fixes for backtrace handling. In addition, libparted now dynamically allocates exception message space. The library also introduces a new function called ped_device_cache_remove() to remove a single device from the cache. The parted(8) command line tool has been improved. Zero size devices are now correctly shown as 0.00B rather than -0.00kB. The 'print list' command is an alias for 'print all', and 'mktable' is an alias for 'mklabel'. The 'print devices' command is new in this release.
This release addresses some bugs found in 1.8.0. There are mostly improvements to error handling and some commands in the parted(8) frontend program. ext2fs resizing has been temporarily disabled, and a reference to the resize2fs(8) has been added. SELinux linking capabilities can be turned on with the --enable-selinux configure option.
GPT disk label feature enhancements and bugfixes. IBM zSeries disk label support for DASD block devices. AIX disk label support. Geometry read problems on 64-bit systems have been fixed. Macintosh (PowerPC and Intel) disk label fixes. Support for binary units (KiB, MiB, and GiB). Support for /dev/mapper logical block devices via libdevmapper. Exception handling fixes and other error fixes. User interface improvements to the parted(8) interactive program.
